The novel intermingles the fictional characters with historical characters and historically accurate events. It is not heavy on battle details so there is no getting bogged down at that level, just story telling at its finest.Elisha Stockwell, Jr., Sees the Civil War is an excellent book, and there are modern editions, so it is readilyavailable. I highly recommend it.But in April 1862, Shiloh was the greatest battle ever fought in America with casualties larger than the combined total of all previous American wars.
